In geek circles, you may know about Recursive acronyms, where the first letter stands in for the acronym itself.
"OMGWTFBBQ" is similar, in that it is a semantically recursive acronym, meaning that the acronym itself serves as an exemplar of the very phenomenon it signifies. "bbq" makes no sense, and so is perfectly appropriate to tack onto an ascription of "wtf?".
The fact that your compatriot responded to "omgwtfbbq" with "wtf?" should serve as a case in point.
Cause it's like I am going to be a nerd and use SEVERAL acronyms in a row. ANd to highlight how AWARE i am of the dumbness of such a thing, I'm going to add BBQ. The randoness of the BBQ also helps to highlight the fact that the OMGWTF are kind of like, Uh, SAY WHA>??????? ///CONFUSED!
