Jun 06, 2008 00:54

I've been skirting the Schwarzchild radius of the workload of despair for the last three weeks. I finally finished the new Pupil Profiles yesterday and handed them in. 20,000 words of edu-speak gobbledegook. I can go back to actually thinking about teaching again ( Read more... )

Oh eloise! A fic from you was such a reward! I love the premise, the Sammy-attitude, and respect too, and I love the swat, and the stubborn Dean, and the JOHN, the JOHN that I adore, who puts the hunt off....

*hugs you*

God, I wanted more than the swat, but this JOHN, the one I adore too, he only gave Dean what he needed. I'm so glad you liked it.

man, this is so sad - the way john completely misreads dean, the way sam tries to stand up for his brother, the way dean would rather be in pain than left out of a hunt. john's disappointment and disapproval - that dean didn't mention his shoulder - hurt worse than the actual injury.

i love the bits about sam's pissy teenagerhood, tho. "He doesn’t just hold grudges, he coddles them, pets them, makes sure they’re properly fed and watered with extra angst" made me giggle.

Thanks. I think John is a little ashamed of how he misreads Dean - he does acknowledge to Sam that Dean's stupidity might be genetic. I wanted John to give Dean what he needed - a stern reaction to his lying, the single slap is 'enough' punishment - and John doesn't want Dean to dwell on his mistake.

But John's not great at reading Dean, and he doesn't always see how his reaction is misinterpreted.

Wow - I love how your wrote each of the Winchesters here! Sammy's stuborn teen angst, John being fair but tough, Dean being (well) Dean. They were all sadly perfect.

Thanks. Stubborn Sammy is the one character I never have any problem writing. His voice comes very easily *grins* I was a very non-rebellious teen, so clearly all my inner issues come out in my Sam voice.

Dean in this is painful to watch. He's so determined to be there for John and Sam, defining himself in terms of their needs and wants. John doesn't quite get that, but he sees enough to give Dean what he needs.

Ohhhhhh, I love you for this! I adore your John and Dean, and Sam being in the middle for a change, and well, just everything about this! God, I've missed LJ (and your fics!)! Thank you thank you thank you! :)

PS: The "I blame Metallica" had me cracking up. :)

Thank you, baby! You know my John and Dean obsession *g* Sam was fun to write in this - wanting to be pissy with John, but wanting to stick up for Dean as well.

Excellent! John was stern but overall his love for Dean shines through!

That Dean! Will he never learn!

"He hits him hard enough to leave the outline of his palm on Dean’s thigh, hard enough that he can see the separation between each finger, slivers of pale skin splitting the faint red imprints."

It's awesome the way that one slap made such an impression. It was a gesture, to be sure, but it said so much. And very prettily written too!

Thank you! I knew that Dean needed some closure, and I also knew there was no way John would beat him while he was hurt. John knew that the slap had to be hard enough to let Dean know he was forgiven.

I waver so much writing John's discipline. On the one hand, I know realistically that John probably wasn't spanking the boys much past the age of 8. I think he'd be much more likely to use extra training as punishment - the Marine quarterdecking tradition.

On the other - I really want John and Dean spanking... *sighs*
