Mary would be somewhere across the vast expanse of bed, balanced on the opposite edge, Dean’s head pressed against the small of her back as he sprawled horizontally between his parents, snoring contentedly.

The theory in our house is that this is a instinctive attempt by all children to ensure no (more) siblings with whom they'd have to share parental resources. In other words: toddler birth control. ;)

Thanks. Oh, toddler birth control. It works. I spent almost three years sleeping on the edge of the bed.

John remembers the easy loose-limbed sprawl of his first-born, willingly abandoned to an untroubled sleep. Now there’s tension in the curve of his spine, in the crook of his arm where his baby brother rests.

I love this line. It's both nostalgic and heart-clenching - says a lot about Dean, taking on what would seem to be his life-long responsibility at such a young age, and about John, actually noticing that.

I *heart* your Wee!s.

Thank you! I do like the idea of Dean always being aware of his responsibility to Sammy, and of course John notices. *g*
