to cut, perchance to cure?

just got back from round rock and the verdict is...surgery.  we spoke to both the vet ortho and the vet radiologist (there was also a vet internist, endocrinologist and oncologist on site--who knew they got this specific???) and they both concurred that the injury was subtle but definitely present.  since we were all docs they got really technical ( Read more... )

Hope all goes well. :-)

Czech Stop looks fun!

When our cat was being diagnosed with cancer, I was impressed with all the resources the clinic had. While I am not a doctor, I am also not a complete idiot when it comes to medical stuff. They gave me credit for knowledge I had and didn't dumb things down. I appreciated that.

is it's open 24hrs a day! on many a night, it served as a becon, a oasis of refreshment and delight on a long trip back home from austin and points south!

this guy is supposedly a world renown authority, but he was so down to earth and even quiet--especially for an orthopedic surgeon!

My ex-FIL is an orthopedic surgeon. :-/ I think he finally sealed my losing respect for MDs, no offense to you. Redneck jerk, he was/is. My ex and I also found some of his old college grade reports. I always knew I was smarter than him. ;-)

so no prob ;)

yeah, i've never been a fan of grades. also, the medschool/residency admission process still boggles me--a lot of smart people are left out and some real dumbassess get in... *sigh*

i also have this theory that the smarter it you have to be to get into a specialty, the dumber the doctor it makes you on the other side. the easier it is to get into a specialty, the smarter you have to be to be good at it. yet of course the level of respect, money and ego goes with the dumb guy...

glad it went well - hope it continues to!

btw, after reading the above exchange, does this mean i should NOT be wary of an american doctor whose medical degree came from grenada? for realz - this came up recently with someone i know. doc is at a great hospital (ny hosp/weill cornell) but all her training was down there. not being a snob - i really am curious.

Well... elmnopo July 4 2008, 00:58:06 UTC
The medical school isn't as important as where they did their residency and fellowship training. If they got into and graduated from a good residency program, then I wouldn't have any problem with them. This is where you really learn how to be a doc. Medschool is just a primer.

For example, I know of some people that went to some big name medschools but aren't very good docs. Conversely, there are those that matriculated at more modest places who did well and are great physicians. I work with a bunch of foreign medical grads (FMG's) and I trust most of them.

Thanks for the support! Skye appreciates it!

I've been lusting after them since I saw yours. Such serendipity when I saw them today! WOOT

Gotta stop at the Czech! It's the law.

I hope so too. We're biting our collective nails over this!

also, on the human/dog medical stuffs, I have a client that is a non-prof that funds research studies on animal diseases and issues, and there is some interesting stuff coming out about the benefits of this research to humans:
