I have finally seen The Hunger Games, becoming possibly the last person in the world to do so.

I had always said it Mell-ark. Spoilers for all books. )

I quite liked Gale in this. I am Team Peeta all the way (sorry again, taragel), but I felt we got a lot of his relationship with Katniss in the movie. I completely understand why people saw him as Katniss' soulmate, which I always was sort of ho-hum on in the books.

Really? The movie made you get it when the book didn't? Huh. That's so interesting because I feel like everything about their relationship was sooo surface in the movie (or just generally everything PERIOD was so surface in the movie). I'm sorta surprised.

I don't know! I feel like I was indifferent to Gale when we met him in the books, and then Katniss and Peeta went through everything together, and my heart grew a million sizes. But in the movie - I don't know, maybe I got their chemistry at the beginning, when I didn't before because I was too concentrated on their not starving to death? And Gale with Prim on his shoulders! Adorable!

Hmm interesting. I was so the opposite of course, I loved Gale and Kat together from the start and then was like "who is this bread boy interloper!!" Lol.

Re: the movie...I'm pretty much neutral to all parties. LOL. I don't feel all the feels. Not yet anyway.

Wasn't Josh Hutcherson a delight? I was so pleased with his Peeta. I felt like even though we didn't get some of his snarkier lines (I really wanted "you here to finish me off, sweetheart?"), he still really portrayed what I feel is the heart of the character.

And Jennifer Lawrence, of course, was perfect.

When the woman showed Seneca the muttation she'd created with such delight and he responded in kind, it was like the final straw for me and I leaned over to my friend and couldn't help but say "they are terrible people."

Ugh, right? I know it's a commentary about the society they live in and how desensitized they are to the brutality of the Games, but you can't help but want to kill them all for being so delighted by it. Another moment that I really liked was when Haymitch was watching a Capitol family with the kids running around playing with fake swords. His face said everything.

And I couldn't care less about Gale or Gale/Katniss in the books, but I felt for him here. Good job, younger Hemsworth bro.

Josh Hutcherson was everything I ever wanted Peeta to be, honestly. And I want to be bffs with Jennifer Lawrence forever.

I thought Woody Harrelson did an amazing job as Haymitch. In the other books I got a much better sense of him and his abilities, but the movie brought that to the forefront in a way the Hunger Games novel just didn't for me.

Also, Gale/Katniss, yeah. I'm intrigued to see how I think it plays out in the other movies, since book-wise I was all Katniss/Peeta, all the time.
