dorkage: house 6x01 broken & other things

1. Wow, I totes failed at writing up my recap of the House season premiere yesterday - I was GOING to, and had gone and trawled through pages of TWOP fanwank in preparation (just to see if I was alone in thinking what I did about the episode), and then I FELL DEAD ASLEEP. Nice. So I'm a little less impassioned about it right now, which would make ( Read more... )

The problem I had with the House premiere is that it wasn't an episode of House, for me.
It was as you said a stand alone movie.

I do think the Lydia thing was a bit rushed, and that she was a bit irresponsible, she should know better than to sleep with a patient committed to a mental institution.

I am not flailing all over this episode.

Oh good, so I'm not the only one over here waiting for the season to properly start so I can warm up the flail engine for real? I think it was just such a wasted opportunity - in a way, I'd like to have seen him taking cases and helping out the team while still at Mayfield, and tying his therapy sessions with Nolan into his life as he tries to ease back into it, rather than really separating the worlds so cleanly as they're doing. Sigh.

I think it could ALL have been done a lot better if it hadn't been rushed through too, especially the Lydia bit.

I know.
Even before the episode aired, I remember telling someone that I wasn't looking forward to the season premiere, but that I was excited for the episodes coming after it.
I like the show House MD, the characters, the formula, the interaction. And while, I did enjoy some parts of 'Broken', the flying (I must find a place where I can do that, seriously), the talent show, I like Alvie, the female therapist, and Noland (was awesome, and I hope House continues his therapy with him), it wasn't an episode of 'House MD'.

They should have aired this as a House TV movie during the hiatus.

I was pretty much unspoiled for the premiere, so was really excited about it - I figured the writers would impress the heck out of me as they've always done. But then it got predictable and I really couldn't abide that. This show never takes the easy way out, that's why I love it! Parts of Broken, as I've mentioned, I really loved... parts of it, not so much.

Bring on next Monday, I can't wait to see where they go from here!

Homigod if Murney were ever Velma, I might physically shit a brick. PERFECTION.

YEAH YOU SAID IT. Seriously I have said all along that I would kill. I just want her to go and oust WHOEVER is playing Velma now and take that role for her own, omg.

Have I listened to her singing All That Jazz excessively? Yes. Not ashamed to admit it, either.

THANK YOU. Thank you so much for this.
I hated this episode with a passion and I'm sure you know how much I adore this show and respect the writers and think that season 5 was the best thing happened to television ever, but this. This episode was every kind of FAIL.
Sledgehammmer of Predictability --> EXACTLY! Tell you the truth, I felt personally offended by that writing, do the writers think the audience of House is that stupid we buy all that shit? The magic box, Lydia, the talent show, Alvie taking his meds? WTF! David please, don't insult our intelligence.

Legit by the end of the episode I wanted to cry from the fail...

Absolutely same here. :( And I'm so not used to this feling. And can't believe how many people are totally crazy about this episode. :O

there were so many ISSUES left untouched that... it feels such a waste. Not ONE question about Kutner? Amber? Cuddy? Wilson? The complexity and richness in House's relationships - THAT'S the part that keeps this show so rewarding.See, this is my main problem with the episode. ( ... )

YOU'RE WELCOME. I'm just glad to know that other people DO feel this way - and that the disappointment comes from how good this show has been and proved that it can be. I just never expected the writing team to take the route it did, especially at the end. And YES OMG SEASON FIVE. After that, how could they give us THIS?! I still have faith that the writers will salvage the situation, but I must say this was one of the most disappointing episodes of House I've ever seen.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE CRAZY AMOUNTS OF LOVE FOR IT. Parts of it were great, even excellent, but the ending - disappointing.

I'm hoping that the season to come will directly address all the issues that weren't mentioned - House's feelings for Cuddy, his reliance on Wilson, his guilt over Amber and Kutner. Otherwise I will CUT A BITCH.

Seeing as I am nowhere near caught up and it's been ages since I've tried to catch up from season two (not since the season 5 finale D: D:), I didn't hate it as much as you did. All I really took from it was a reinforcement of how epic Hugh Laurie is sometimes - favorite scene in the premiere? When he plays basketball and is just a total ass about it.

Also, the smug look on my sister's face when the only other PPTH character in the episode was Wilson was not fun. House/Wilson shippers, do not want.

OMG I am going to harrass and badger you into watching the rest of the seasons asap because they're so good! Hello, the last episode of Season 2 is still one of the most mindbendingly amazing episodes EVER. But I'll be happy with anyone who loves Hugh as I do. Honestly my respect for the man's talent (and blue eyes, omg) knows no bounds. That basketball scene kicked epic amounts of ass.

Dude, House/Wilson shippers are okay in my book (I'm surrounded by them, my sister is one too, as is noldoparma), but rejoicing that he was in the episode and Cuddy wasn't? NOT NICE.

The Lydia thing didn't hit me as much as others. I didn't really care for her character really. I just focused on her effect on House in opening up and stuff. I didn't think it needed to lead to the whole sex deal and whatever, but there were nice parallels in the ep. Freedom Master like Kutner and maybe a little bit of Amber. Going to Lydia and asking her to stay like he did with Stacy. I just liked that part for showing House opening up and forming some sort of relationship. Although, I did have some issues -- Lydia being married was a huge one. Apparently House has a thing for going after married/taken women. :P ( ... )

I do think that Lydia's effect on House is interesting, intriguing and had better be explored in the coming season - but I'm frustrated with how strangely she was written. It just seems so weird to me to throw in a whole lot of baggage that isn't resolved and only complicates the brief relationship she has with House. And while I'm all for complexity and deep, involving, realistic characters - we're watching House after all, it's to be expected! - a lot of Lydia just made me go - HUH ( ... )
