On the one hand, Satan is, well, Satan (albeit a much more tragic/heroic character in Paradise Lost than traditionally depicted and as such I almost lean to him not being a villain at all). On the other, I am deeply biased towards all things Highlander. So many tough choices.

He's a sufficiently complex character that he doesn't fit into the villain type well, agreed. However, he does still fit "villain" as well as he does "anti-hero," if not better-I spent a lot of time trying to believe that Milton was some kind of pre-Nietzschean radical, but alas, it's just not in the text.
