Egad, not doing that again.

I have an unusual relationship with the cold. I like it. I always have. I like the nice, bracing sense it gives one, walking around in it; I like the way it activates my sinuses and clears the rest of humanity indoors. My idea of a good time is to go for a jolly fun swim in the ocean in the middle of winter. When my classmates are showing up ( Read more... )

lulz exercise, you needed to know that

It's completely reasonable to complain about 15°F. That's cold!

Have you done Couch-to-5K before? I never made it quite to 5K, but I though the program worked pretty well. Once I get the treadmill in the house this weekend -- because even if it's -2 outside here, it isn't -2 in my basement -- I'm going to give it another shot.

Nope, never done it! I'd heard y'all discuss it on Twitter before and finally thought I'd give it a try. I really do think it's doable for me, but… not like that. I'll try again on Wednesday. At about two in the afternoon.

Woooot, treadmill. I like to think of myself as a back-to-nature sort, but I have to admit, the idea seems really attractive right now. Go you!

"you crazy fucking bastard what the fuck is wrong with you."

It's so endearing!

So what temperature are you used to? If there's no substantial windchill, I can handle 30 degree weather in no more than a light jacket, and one time after a long walk, I stripped down to a tank top in twenty-five degree weather, but FIFTEEN. D=

And yes, morning temperatures, really wherever you are, I think, are not for the living.

What temperature am I used to? Well, 90º F summers, 30º winters. But the temperatures I like would involve summers that never got above 75º, and if -30º winters accompanied that, I think I could find a way to cope. This morning, I think I would have been all right with a cotton pullover and maybe knee socks, but possibly I'm overestimating my cold tolerance. Again. How about you? Warm weather or cold weather?

I like it when it gets into the nineties. I mean, it hurts, but it's a good hurt. As long as it doesn't get too humid. Although Europe was severely humid and I adapted to deal, so who knows. But I PREFER drier heat. Cold...um, I don't love it, but I can deal with it down into the high thirties without crying. I've dealt with lower, but no desire to experience it for months. If I had to choose between sweating bullets humidity or sub-zero, I'd go for the first.

You and my mother would get along like a house on fire. Of course, from my perspective, she practically likes the house on fire…

This northeast-type has "feels like 13" weather right now, according to the Internet. I refuse to step outside and test it until I absolutely have to, which is why my pantry is down to about three cans of beans and tomato paste. Polar bear I am not. Heh.

13º F with windchill isn't so bad. But, man, some of the temperatures I've seen in the news today are scary-low. I can't imagine what it would be like to be homeless in this.

Get a polar bear friend to get you groceries?

*shivers* Be careful with that; don't freeze yourself accidentally. Although the term "ellipticicle" is rather fab, I'd rather you not demonstrate one IRL!

This was the first time I've ever been seriously taken by surprise by the cold. Only this past summer, I was seriously taken by surprise by the sun/heat for the first time. Coincidence? I think not. I blame this stupid "aging" thing. :P

And watch yourself up there; I hear y'all have actual, srs bsns cold.

I think I'd probably be in the "You crazy woman" camp, but when I think of cold, I think of the -15 degree weather we had the other day. You'd probably end up with bits falling off wearing a skirt in that.

However, it does mean that people can do fun things like vaporize boiling water and that a Doctor Who scarf actually becomes a practical garment. :D

Yeah, I had the suspicion that the midwest folks would be LOLing in their sleeves at me.

However, it does mean that people can do fun things like vaporize boiling water and that a Doctor Who scarf actually becomes a practical garment. :D

I've ALWAYS wanted to do the boiling water thing. I wanted to sign on as a cook in Antarctica so I could do that, but I really only needed to go far enough inland!

And Who scarves! Pride and practicality!

It's good natured LOLing.

The midwest is definitely more convenient than Antarctica. Cold each year and a reasonable chance of being found before you can actually freeze into a lump of ice. And since we're all nice in the midwest, there will probably be hot chocolate.

Mmm, chocolate. (Fun fact! Field workers in Antarctica carry great whacking slabs of chocolate around for rations when they're outside. The n00b who virtuously packed himself a tuna fish sandwich for his first hike instead quickly found out why.)

Did you get the most recent file I sent, by the way? Various bits of electronic fuckery have given me e-mail paranoia.
