Apparently everything I've done these days is watching Downton and my challenge is not progressing that well. Season 2 has been over for more than a month now, I've already gotten my DVDs, rewatched scenes and episodes and I'm anxiously waiting for the Christmas special. So, what's more to say about it?

Season 2 wasn't as perfect as season 1. There ( Read more... )

I'm just waiting with bated breath for Carson/Hughes to jump at each other. No luck so far, but there's hope yet. Same applies for Clarkson/Isobel really.

Such an occurance would be most fortuatous and would provide many opportunities for fanfic-ing, which is exciting because I'm just getting back into it after Macbeth! :)

I think I've finally figured what bothered me with S2: more often than not, it felt much more like a soap opera (which was a feeling that was never present for me during S1).

Yes, I agree, specially when it comes to Mary/Matthew and that damn love quadrangle. However, I've always found them quite uninteresting so I'm not bothered much...or better, I'm bothered because they take up so much screentime, which could be used for other more interesting characters.

Belive it or not, the Mary/Mathew soapyness didn't bother me as much.
And it's not that I'm a die hard shipper (which actually I'm not. I like them - sure! - but that's about as far as it goes).
It proabably has a lot to do with the fact that from very early on in S1 they seemed to have taken up those roles of the doomed-will-they-won't-they lovers... you know... the drawn out looooong romance. So I guess I was expecting it on that front.

But it did bother me when all the soapyness started to seap into all the other storylines that didn't have to fall into that category.

Yes, I can understand that. Specially with Sybil/Branson at times. And even Anna/Bates had some soapy moments thanks to Vera.
