Wow! I'd heard about cropping like this, but had no idea how to do it. I shall be trying this out later. Thank you!

Tell me if it works and if you find the tutorial lacking in some respect :)

I've seen tutorials that use this method, and I believe it is one of the better ones. Esp. because I tried to use the extract filter the other day and screwed it all up. Thank you for posting this, of course adding to memories.

Photoshop Support & About.com. Do you think those are similar?

I haven't seen either before!!! I learned it in uni actually. I skipped them, and I think my uni prof explained it far better.

You think I should define how a mask works before?

Which one is the extract filter?

Oh wow, that's a really nifty way to crop a picture, never seen it before.

I myself am addicted to Layer Masks and the Quick-Mask-Mode, but I'll definetly give this one a try!

Thanks!

I think there is merit to each way..it always depends on the picture.
:)

have fun!

Just tried it and it's really, really cool.

I have a German version of Photoshop and first translated "Calculations" to "Bildberechnungen", instead of "Kanalberechnungen" and wondered why it didn't work. +snorts+
I always translate the terms wrong, so that's just me. ;)

But I guess your question was more if you translated correctly into English and not if everyone is as demented as me and not able to translate properly back into German. ;)

rofl!!! you could have asked!!! I googled like crazy to find the english terms and I'm still not sure on Tiefen und Mitteltöne!!!
