I've seen tutorials that use this method, and I believe it is one of the better ones. Esp. because I tried to use the extract filter the other day and screwed it all up. Thank you for posting this, of course adding to memories.

I have a German version of Photoshop and first translated "Calculations" to "Bildberechnungen", instead of "Kanalberechnungen" and wondered why it didn't work. +snorts+ I always translate the terms wrong, so that's just me. ;)
But I guess your question was more if you translated correctly into English and not if everyone is as demented as me and not able to translate properly back into German. ;)
