I totally got Lassie's reaction. He's not the most emotionally open man and his default setting tends towards anger, but he wants to help Shawn and to Carlton, that means punishing Stiles to the full extent of the law. Now that Shawn's told him to let it go, Lassie's a bit adrift in terms of what he should feel and how he can help Shawn. So, anger.

He'll figure it out in the end.

Laura.

Oh, someone commented! Not going to lie, I was fretting. Two days and not a peep. I was thinking, "wow, they must have really hated this chapter."

Thank you for your insight. That's exactly what I was trying to get at. Lassiter may work with victims of crimes in his field, but he's a detective not a social worker. His idea of saving the day is putting all the bad guys in jail and he may not really get why someone wouldn't want to prosecute.

He'll figure it out in the end.

He sure will. =)

I actually really liked Carlton's reaction, in much the same way I like Henry's in the earlier chapter- they weren't perfect, but they were perfect for those characters. Henry gets angry with Shawn when he feels like Shawn could be hurt, or is in danger. Carlton tends to retreat into rote and procedure, the comfort of the law, when faced with anything that might have an emotional impact on his life. They both mean well, and they both go about trying to help Shawn in ways that reflect how much they care for him, and how very bad they are, in general, at caring for ANYONE.

In short, I love it. :)

You got it! \o/ Gus and Juliet are probably the most emotionally healthy of Shawn's friends. The thing is, Shawn probably knows that, too, hence why he doesn't want them finding out about all his demons.

I'm glad you love the chapter! We're getting close to the actual hurt/comfort that you requested. Sorry it took so long. ;)

You're writing me a story I've wanted to read for a long time. It's got funny lines, emotional depth, plot, good characterization, and a sensitivity to the subject matter that doesn't get lost, but doesn't overwhelm the story itself and turn it into an ~Issue story. You don't have to apologize for writing a great, believable story, in as many parts as it takes you to get where you want it to go.

Also? You don't have to apologize because you're AWESOME, and if I actually knew you, and it wasn't borderline creepy, I would totally send you thank you flowers or something. So instead, I just make dolphin noises whenever I see a new chapter, and hope nobody can hear me.

I'm excited because we're actually getting to some Shassie! unless I write that bonus chapter I thought up which why, brain, why, won't you just let me get to the feels? I prolly will. dammit.

Best review, evar, btw! Thank you so much. I don't really feel too bad, but I do wish I could finish stories quicker than what I do. And flowers, aren't necessary. I look forward to all your responses, cause they make me pretty happy. =D I realized belatedly I should have left you a spot but ...

And I think we can say we sort of, kind of know each other. =P I know you're a writer and, like me, are an adult/aren't a teenage fangirl. (Oh geez, now I'm the creeper.) My name's Elle. I once sincerely considered getting a master's degree in psychology so I could read fanfiction study fangirls and actually get paid for it. At the moment, I only write for two fandoms. Nobody IRL knows I do this. Yay, random facts! \o/

This comment is getting rambly. I'll end it now.

I just found this story and I am totally in love with it. One of my favorite things in a fic is when a character acts in a way that's unusual for them, for a good reason. I think we fall into a trap too often of deciding there's only one correct characterization for a person, and it's fics like this, where extreme circumstances cause unusual behavior, where you can really see that an author has a grasp on the character. And this fic is totally top-notch in that respect. I love the confrontation with Stiles and the great job you've been doing of writing Shawn covering up his trauma. The phone reveal was a total shock, absolutely loved it. Definitely looking forward to more of this!
