Author's Summary: They're paired by their music teacher for their final assessment, a Battle of the Bands-style playoff. Unfortunately, she doesn't know that a bit of high school drama went down at term-break. She doesn't know what this one song she's making them play might mean to both of them.
This is one of today's offerings in the currently running High School Merlin fest (hs_merlin). Short fics are often not given nearly enough credit, but in the right hands, 500 words or 1000 words or 1400 (in this case) can deliver all you need.
The story is told in short bits of alternating POV (Arthur and Merlin) and it works incredibly well for this angsty and sweet read that had me teary at the end.
