Wow.

I would never have considered a contented distopian future. Damn.

More of a contented apocalypse... but yeah, it takes a bit to wrap one's head around the idea, doesn't it?

Brings a whole new dimension to the phrase "Too much of a good thing"...

This was genius! I can imagine the premise of this short story being expanded to fill the pages of a novel and it would sell like hotcakes. It rings true that we are our own worst enemy. What an irony for civilization to end because we were too satisfied. Really enjoyed this!

I really viewed this as a one-shot story, but thank you for the praise.

Really neat concept - I like how you turn the trope in a whole new direction!

Granted, I was "in a mood" when I wrote this, for the obvious reasons... but I believe that too much of *ANYTHING* is bad. And I do enjoy presenting a different point of view when the opportunity arises.

My favorite bit is this:

Many "experts" claimed that the day would herald the end of civilization, if not the world, though a few predicted the succeeding era would be one of peace and contentment.

As it turned out, they were all right...

This was wonderful, you should still be in the race. You have no reason to doubt your ability to write. I love the entire premise for the end of life on Earth.

My issues are not rational; therein lies the problem.

But I've made progress today, and hope to make more. I'm focusing on that.

I love the entire premise for the end of life on Earth.

I personally wouldn't have used the word "love" to describe how I feel about the premise... but I think the word "proud" would do nicely.
