There are few people born with the instincts it takes to raise a kid. For the most part, they instinctively fall in love with the child once it becomes real for them: used to be at birth, but with the onset of modern science and the sonogram, it's around the middle of the pregnancy

And therein lies the problem: I have enough trouble taking things as they come in my own day-to-day life... and there have been extended periods where I've just plain failed at it. The responsibility that comes with raising a child, 24/7? It's literally inconceivable to me.
On top of my own lack of confidence, I live alone in a tiny studio apartment, so I have very little room to raise a child & no one to help me on a regular basis. And yes, I know that other people have managed under even worse conditions... but it just feeds my lack of confidence in this matter even more.
