I'm having the exact same problems. I don't go to church very often for the same reason you listed: I feel that my personal relationship with Christ matters more than any church or dogma. And I call myself a lapsed Catholic because of stuff like what you linked. I will never agree with that. I'll stick to being close to Christ, not close to doctrine, especially bullshit like that.
I can't give you any advice. I can't understand the Pope's actions either, as what he's doing there is valuing the lives of the unborn above the life and mental health of a nine-year-old. Twins are hard for an adult woman to carry, a nine-year-old? Gah.
But if you need someone to talk to, I'm here. I do have a strong religious background to bounce off of.
I wish I had answers for you. I say this as somebody who changed churches before she really knew what it all Meant, who has a Very Strained relationship with those family members who are still Catholic, and as somebody who is very spiritual, but hasn't figured out yet how that translates to modern day religion -
I have long felt that the Modern Catholic Church shows very little relation to the teachings of Christ.
I have enough issues with Religion myself, so I have nothing in way of advice for you, but I do hope that you can find some peace, however that may need to come.
(and if you ever DO want to talk about religion, come knock on my [virtual] door, because I do love trying to figure it out.)

Yes. Exactly that.

I am currently without virus-free computing at home, so you can call me if you want to talk -- I should be home most nights this week.
