I just got back from seeing The Golden Compass, don't worry all spoilers will be under the cut. But first I have 2 things to point out.

1. The previews for new movies included the new Narnia movie, Prince Caspian the irony of previewing a Narnia movie at a Pullman film was not lost on me. Although I don't think it was accidental either ( Read more... )

I watched that today, too. I quite liked it - haven't read the books yet, but I will once I get around to actually procuring them. I did read through the Wiki page a while back when I heard they were making this movie, so that was a decent primer...I can see why you wouldn't like the spot where they chose to end the movie, but like you said, that's probably mostly just in case they don't follow up with sequels.

I also thought the faint handprint after the slap was a cool detail. What happens to the lab/machine at Bolvangar in the book?

We didn't get the Prince Caspian trailer; we did get Inkheart and Spiderwick Chronicles though (in terms of kids' movies I want to see) and a few others.

In the book Lyra has a more complicated plan on how to get the children out, it's alluded to when she tells Roger to have the kids have their warm clothes ready in the movie. In the book she's at Bolvangar for a couple of days before she's caught and taken for intercision. However in the movie they have to rush things, clearly, so plans get sped up.

Book storyline she plans a fire alarm. There is a fire drill while she's there and she sees that the adults aren't really organized for one and she can use that against them. So she starts a fire in the kitchen hits the alarm and they all run.

We had the Inkheart trailer as well, I have that book and now really have to read it before the movie :)

Haha, yeah, I have Inkheart too and want to read it. I started it a while ago (so far, so good) but then my mom started reading it, too, and kind of took it over and didn't give it back to me until recently. :) She liked it and says the movie looks the way she thought it should, for the most part.
