I'd for sure start with series 1 of the current run. Not back to the original Dr. Who (which I vaguly remember watching sometimes when I was a kid...)

Absolutely. I sort of saw an episode here and there in first season and then caught most of second season, I just really need to buy the DVDs :) I'm so glad it's coming back for season 3!
