A/N: Fanfiction.net, where I've been posting this, has gone completely wonky, so I decided that I might as well take it over here and leave a note to that effect in my profile

Oh, that's okay! I'm flattered, but what little I do know about Elvish (*cringe* It's like saying 'what little I know about Germanic,' but whatever) has nothing to do with Tengwar. Tell Nimloth thanks anyway, though

Thanks, I'll try to use the link. I'm aware that Tengwar is a script; it's just that I'm not likely to master the transliteration/approximation "back" to it under the deadline, so I was hoping to plagiarize somebody's effort.
Are you sure you aren't JKR in disguise?nestashouseAugust 21 2007, 09:30:46 UTC
If you aren't, you ought to be. I always did like Neville better than Harry; I suppose I sympathise with the underdog. It's interesting to see him being partially rehabilitated in the movies, and eventually in the books.
Are we to assume, as in the original books, that nothing the Daily Prophet says can be trusted?

Oh, thanks! And alas, no.
Neville and Harry are probably my favourite characters in the series, but I do think Neville is a rather nicer person and would make a much better Boy-Who-Lived -- he's not fearless, like Harry, which is all for the better, but he's got more than enough courage in a pinch. A Harry who isn't conditioned to be a hero would probably turn out better too; IMO he'd make an excellent sidekick.
This is, btw, the HP version of our Rivendell AU, where the idea is that it'd be better for the characters if it had happened this way, even if the story isn't as good or deep.
Oh, the Daily Prophet. I'd say that it's more the DP of the earlier books -- containing some facts, but always exaggerating something and adding a large dose of treacle or malice. The least truthful is the one about Sirius' reconciliation with his grandfather -- but that's because the Blacks lied through their teeth were rather selective with the truth. So he did reconcile with Arcturus, but for different reasons than he/they gave, his [. . .]

Quite awhile back now, Nesta, Raksha, and I brainstormed a take on the fact that whoever sent those dreams to Boromir and Faramir in LOTR quite obviously wanted Faramir to go to Rivendell - and, maybe, those Powers That Be might have been right. The thread seems to be defunct at the moment, but here are a few stories I wrote for it:
Though they're separate - PTG is as close to canon as I can make it (in terms of plotlines and characterisation), while this, written before DH, obviously takes some liberties.
Family dynamics seems the inevitable subject for me, yes - I didn't even mean to do this and it still came out that way.
I love seeing the dynamics thought reading the first 8 chapters and prologue I consider myself throughly confused, especially with regards to the Malfoys' position with the Blacks and what exactly is everyone's role... also what happened to Remus?
at first I had confused some of the prologue with PTG's since they all share the same tags, and I don't mind starying from the cannon, I love the charactres changing their parameters and reading about it is some of the best fun for me, which is why I don't like Sly-H stories where basicaly you change Ron and Draco's name, Hermione is suddenly Blaise or Pansy and the story is a copy... when you do an AU changes should be considered more than suddenly changing house colors, getting nice clothes (which for some reason is always leather and dark) and being an overpowered, overconfident, omniscient 11 year old who speaks like college graduate would.
