I think he would be protective, especially since it's the last thing Han asked of him. (Leia has her own feelings about that, of course.)
But I can absolutely see her (or anyone else in her position really) being used as a Figurehead For Tragedy. And I can see it driving Leia CRAZY.

LOL, it's totally my fanwank that she was a guest of the Empire and they broke her out between ESB and ROTJ. Maybe as a test-run for Jabba's palace or something, idk.
I guess Luke's just getting closer to Vader, being tempted to identify and sympathise with him, which he sees as potentially a bad thing...but then Vader's acting, not really out of rage at his orders being disobeyed (okay, maybe SOMEWHAT that), but because he wants to protect LukeRight.
