okay, this wedding thing

I have no problem with Northstar marrying his boyfriend; they're a cute couple, and comics need to stop trying to keep everyone in this relationship limbo thing.

What I want to know is why the hell are they getting married in New York?! They're both Canadian citizens! Same-sex marriage has been legal in Canada since 2005! Why not get married ( Read more... )

comics, glbt, x-men, northstar, fannish blather, marvel, wtf

They're getting married in New York because Marvel is in New York and Marvel doesn't care about Canada, dur.

...Probably the reason, yes. *blows a raspberry at Marvel*

I wondered the same thing.

Then I pondered their other options if they really, really wanted to stage a male same-sex marriage in NY for, uh, a statement. And my brain went a little dead, cause the first couple is two teenagers and are currently damaged, and the other two...aren't really at a place in their relationship where marriage would be good for ANYONE, let alone the two of them.

Which doesn't make it better, because if Marvel was doing this it should be for a better reason than because they can, or that they're trying to get in on some of Archie's pie. Midnighter and Apollo beat them to it nearly a decade ago anyway! -_-;

Not that Apollo and Midnighter matter a damn right now, what with DC trumpeting all over the place about how they're about to reveal an "iconic character" as gay next month and all the while ignoring said Apollo and Midnighter who are already in a DC book (and not as a couple, iirc).

I can't even stand the characters and this annoys the shit out of me.

I...had missed that memo. I shall ignore this new information until it becomes impossible for me not to (and/or I find out by accident and it makes me scream myself hoarse in the real world). Yeesh.

Last time I checked, while I was trying to figure out if ANYONE got to have a partner, their relationship had been hit with a reset button so that "fans could watch it grow from the beginning". Which I ranted about at the time, back when I still had hope that anything in the damn DCnU would make sense. At best I had fairly limited knowledge of the characters, but it seemed insulting to both the fictional characters and the real world people who created them to word it like that.

I won't offer a link to the information, in that case --

*so very glad that DC books in the pullfile = zero except SFA, which hasn't started yet anyway*

Because it's a half assed publicity stunt for a half assed couple nobody put much thought into. Kyle is DEAD the moment they can't milk this any farther. The deck is entirely stacked against him.

It being the Marvel universe, I won't say you'll be proved wrong, but this is the sort of thing that made me stop reading.

Which sort of thing? The killing or the half assing relationships?
