Listened to the clips of the American Idiot cast album on Amazon. Some of it sounds good, some of it sounds meh. None of it approaches the raw awesomeness of the live show, but I guess that is to be expected on a studio recording

I miss Matt a lot too, mostly because of my irrational bias and because he was so freaking sweet in person. Not that any actor was rude, but he was almost Gallagherian in his sweetness. :P
From the audios I've heard though, Stark sounds good. I'm waiting for a boot to show up since I'm never gonna get to NYC (BOO), but I'm sure he's great, performancewise. And I can't even resent him like I did at first because word is he's super nice, too!
For NYC activities...idk, I'd go see shows, haha. Maybe rush/lotto when available? My recs would be Next to Normal and Hair for the rock musicals. I LOVE N2N but Hair, like AI, is the kind of show I won't appreciate beyond the music unless I see it live.
For musicals minus much of the rock, I'm DYING to see Yank! based on the story and word from my friends who've seen it. And Next Fall looks like an awesome play.
Hee - I'm actually looking for interesting stuff to do in between seeing shows. :) Besides American Idiot, I have a ticket to see the non-musical dark comedy A Behanding In Spokane, which I'm pretty stoked about. Other things I'll check out the TKTS booth or lotto if I'm of a mind: Next To Normal, West Side Story, etc. I'm not sure I'd be too into Hair.
God I know, Matt is sooooooo nice. I adore the term 'almost Gallagherian' because, really. Dude. How nice is John? CRAZY NICE. Like, of a level never experienced before by me from a total stranger.
Anyway, I'm glad to have the Berkeley bootlegs since Matt - sigh - is not on the OBC recording. I'm sure there will be boots of the Broadway show! Expect a full report. :)
