This morning I went to St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Kitchener. It was the first time I had visited that particular congregation and I found myself comfortable there in a lot of ways ( Read more... )

It sounds good to me. Since Scripture doesn't prescribe worship forms that specifically, it seems to be one of the areas we have freedom in. Praise God that we have so many different ways in which to exalt Him.

I don't know if you remember, but I attended Harding University for 6 years, which is non-instrumental Church of Christ. I did miss the instruments, but also learned to appreciate the vocal harmonies. Of course, that was usually in groups of at least 20-30, up to daily chapel meetings of over 4,000. So the singing was good.

Anyhow, it also sounds like you really are searching. I pray you find a congregation that you not only feel welcomed and comfortable in, but is one where you can best serve God with your talents and abilities.

I was riding with Vanita the other day and we saw a bumper sticker that read: "Attend the church of Christ's choice". It prompted a discussion on choosing a church based on what Jesus would pick in a church.

Blessings in your search!

My personal frustration with many praise choruses is they were not written as songs to be sung by groups. They seem to have been written as songs for an individual voice to perform. Then someone heard the song, really liked it and said 'we oughta sing that in church!'. Songs written for performance are very different than songs written for group singing and as a result are often very difficult for a group to sing.

I find that I am often simply enduring the song time in church these days and waiting for communion and the sermon.
