The truism that history is written by the victors is one that bothers
me too though not for the reasons you cited. I bothers me because it
is often used as the preamble to yet another rant (and I do mean rant,
in all the emotional non-thinking aspects of the word) about history
being a lie that exists only to prop up the self aggrandizement of the
current people in power. Therefore since all history is a
self-serving lie one must believe nothing about it or from it if one
is truely intelligent.
