As Buffy used to say, 'Must be Tuesday' - my little girl's not feeling great. (She stubbed her toe and one of her best friends is going to a different Secondary School and she's already upset...) So, since she's been a busy little bee, I said that we could post this. Beta-read by yours truly, but trust me, it's all her own writing. (Hanging over my shoulder, literally!)

Chapter 1
The orangey glow that emanated from the inside of the strange blue box spilled out onto the ground, as a young girl with deeply red hair skipped out of the double doors, absolutely ecstatic with joy and excitement.
She was followed by a man with a floppy fringe whose clothes were ripped and singed, apart from a tie that hung loosely round his neck.
He locked the double doors cautiously.
“Be careful, Amelia.” Sniffing the noticeably stale air, he continued. “We need to do what we came to do and leave as soon as we’re done. No messing around. Yes?”
The man looked kindly at the girl whose face had turned deadly serious. She stared into his eyes.
“Yes, Doctor.”
The Doctor flipped his strange gizmo in his hand, making it whirr.
He gloried in the fact that Amelia didn’t complain when he showed off and juggled stuff around. In fact, she loved it.
“Good stuff. Right, you know what we’re looking for. Looks just like air, except orange and it makes you immortal. Now, rule one - DO NOT TOUCH IT. It is no fun to live forever, just ask Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged. Rule two - Don’t disappear. I hate it when people do that. Three - Obey the first two.”
Amelia nodded, looking as though her life depended on her being good - which it did, as it would turn out - if a bit confused.
They were in a warehouse in Durham. The Doctor had told Amelia this as he had set a course and explained the basic problem, which was all tied back to an ancient legend...
The Legend of Immortality
There was once a race called the Tolkeen. They were pompous, and looked down upon the Time Lords and Daleks as though they were pesky flies. Only the Elders saw them as unsophisticated .
Now, when a race is as stuck-up as the Tolkeen, they convince themselves that they must be the best. So, the Tolkeen decided to do something really special, unheard of.
They wanted to be immortal.
They drained a sun of its energy, and used the power to create a gas that would make the person who touched it immortal.
No Tolkeen ever got to use it, as they declared war just after the gas was perfected. The Eternity Air, as it was called, was put under lock and key.
Yet one breath’s worth of the air got through, and was said to make the first person to touch it live forever.
This is legend, but is probably true, and should be treated that way.
Amelia looked slightly confused as she and the Doctor picked their way round barrels and shelves.
“Why?”
The Doctor turned round and looked the young girl in the eyes.
“Why what?” He said, slightly curious about whether the girl would disagree with him.
“Why is it so dangerous? So somebody becomes immortal. No biggy!”
He frowned as though it was obvious.
“Because if someone like Prisoner Zero, who knows only hate, becomes immortal, the universe would be threatened forever.”
The room was silent, and Amelia was frightened. The Doctor’s voice had been so quiet and calm, yet there was a ferocity in it that showed all too well what he felt.
Being the Doctor, the untidy man soon realised he had frightened her.
“Zippety Doo Dah!” he sang, and jumped onto a barrel.
The young girl laughed as she pulled up the collar of her blue coat, realising she had not angered her hero.
They moved on into a new room. It was dark, dank and held what looked like a whole art gallery.
A notice was pinned above the door.

The Doctor grinned at Amelia, who had a bemused look etched on her face.
“Look!” he said, as she read the sign.
“A date with adventure!”
She smiled, her hair hanging round her cherubic face.
