Two must-read CoE recs.

Firstly, THIS FIC! (Title is spoilery.) It goes places I'd not thought possible, and does it without sentimentality, or any kind of fix-it. Incredible writing.

Second, THIS ESSAY. Children of Earth - Ethics, narrative structure, and [spoiler]. This is pretty much *exactly* the essay I would have written if I'd been able to get my thoughts into ( Read more... )

torchwood, piiimp!, children of earth

I *know*. ::fails some more:: I didn't think anyone could do Jack-and-Alice post-CoE, and yet this works so beautifully it has be canon...

It's the same in Scandinavia... *takes deep breath* I can do this!

I like Alice. The whole idea of a female who isn't charmed by Jack intrigues me. It's also clear from her first appearance that she has Jack's number. I mean I know she was a plot device, but she was a well written and believable plot device. Also, I seem to like the angst. possibly there's something wrong with me...

You read selenak's Alice fic, right? And I love the way they made Jack a father, how he clearly loved Alice, and yet couldn't help screw things up. (Pre-CoE I mean. She has *no* illusions.)

Also, I seem to like the angst. possibly there's something wrong with me...
Oh no. As you might already have seen, the essay starts with a quote defining tragedy, and CoE certainly was a perfect example. (Also, all the plotbunnies that I'm currently unable to attend to are horribly angsty. I'm itching to write...)
