The conversation about the Shanshu and Angel's sacrifices was quite moving. Angel really has been battered by the powers That Be, and to what purpose? It's all sacrifice all the time. This made me ache for him: if there is no bigger plan for me... if nothing I do matters, then all that matters is what I do. No carrot and he's still willing to fight the good fight, because it's the right thing to do, and he's damn gracious to Spike about the Shanshu? He really is a hero.

Spike explaining Buffy to Angel shone a spotlight on how much she has changed since her teenage years with Angel. If Angel was holding out hope that he was the one, that should be well and truly gone now.
Indeed - and Spike doesn't even know what he's done...
Spike sees her, flaws and all, and still loves her. That's how you make a relationship work.
And now I want to re-watch 'Touched'. *sigh*

Poor Angel indeed, he just breaks my heart. Being the 'Chosen One' was what gave him purpose, and also what ruined his life.
