The Greatest Gift

Dec 25, 2006 01:42

And so the advent calendar comes to an end. Okay, technically it ended yesterday but I wrote a fic for Christmas day as well just to cap this whole thing off. :) Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive of this effort and has been reading these fics and ficlets over the past month. You've all been really great! Thanks for putting up ( Read more... )

This was kind of awesome. Very nicely done. I think he's the perfect person to have that happen to, to see how he has affected the lives of others.

This is the great finale for the great accomplishment.
I cried when he was trying to prove to his people that he was not an enemy, that he was one of them, and they didnt beleive him...
You put Jack through some bad times but you left him with friends, in the place where he is loved and appreciated.

You know, I think that when they resume the show we shall see that Benry is going to cheat: IF he lets Jack go, he would fulfil his promise literally -- get him off THEIR island to the one the the Losties crashed on. So that Jack would still be on hand to be made use of.

It is strange for me to read that some people like the Others, find some justification for their actions, maybe agree with Benry that they are GOOD people. In my eyes they condemned themselves forever when they watched the falling plane and began organising NOT rescue and help, but spying for appropriate subjects.
Whatever the reason, NOTHING can make it right.

Once more, thank you very much.
Best wishes, Elena.

What a way to cap off your 24 days of Jack. Fantastic - one of the best Christmas Carol-esque fics I've ever read. I only hope that the eventual reunion of Jack and the rest of the survivors on the show is as satisfying as this reunion was.

Thank you so much! I was having a hard time figuring out a fic to write for Christmas and then I decided...time to "It's a Wonderful Life" Jack! I thought it could be interesting - I'm happy that you thought so too! :) *hugs*

Oh, brilliant! Brilliantly done! To have removed Jack from the equation and then to theorize what would have happened if he had never been on the plane - you did quite a job of back tracking and extrapolating the effects of him not being on the island from the beginning. Moving Ana Lucia into his seat was very clever, thus putting her on the island, yet without all the other Tailies.
Boone drowning, Shannon dying from the asthma, Kate dying in the Nigerian plane - and Kate with Sayid! Excellent work, as most things are when they cause anguish while writing. But you got Jack back, and you got him to realize that people love him and home is where your family is. That has to bring some contentment to him, if nothing else can.

It may not exactly be a wonderful life, but it’s a life. And it’s his. That is a perfect ending, darlin', and in spite of it's angst, this is a very uplifting story. *loves*

Trying to figure out what wouldn't have/would have happened if Jack hadn't been there was so hard to do! I started with episode 1 and made a list, went through every single episode up until now with it. I'm still not sure I did it right! I'm glad that you thought it worked nicely and that it made sense. :)

and in spite of it's angst, this is a very uplifting story

thanks! I wanted it to be like that so I'm very happy you felt that way. 90% of the story is this terrible thing, but the last moment was supposed to make it all worthwhile. thanks for reading this and for the lovely fb, babe! *glomps*

You know, I've been working on a real dark fic for the last few weeks - ever since they started playing Christmas songs at work. There are two which have always just caused my heart to bleed when I hear them, no matter what my circumstances, and this year, they both just screamed out Jack and Sawyer to me. If I finish, I may only let a very few close friends read it, 'cause it's going to be rough, but, like your fic here, the end should provide a glimmer of hope. If I get to the point of sharing, would you like to be one of the few to read it?

YES! Are you kidding me? OF COURSE! I would be HONORED to be one of the few to read it. Dark or not, if it's by you, I would love to read it. Thank you for offering, that's such a compliment. If you get to the point to share, I would love to read it. *hugs*
