Wingmen is an excellent read and seems convincingly authentic as a historical novel. I started it thinking it was a gay romance, but ended up reading a war story (which I never would have read otherwise!) But it was very well-written and I enjoyed it. It made it a far richer story to have all the details of combat rather than just focusing on the love relationship. I'm so glad it was re-issued.

that was my impression too. Due to the original publisher I was expecting it to be more "romance", but in the end I think it was perfect like this, a war novel.

I keep hearing about this book, I suppose I'll have to buy it ;-).

Thank you also for the other rec: ''Coming Out Under Fire'' looks also worth reading.

Allan Berube's essay is one worthy to be read, there are many bittersweet stories in it, some of them with happily ever after, mostly not, but that was the time I suppose.

I really enjoyed reading this story. I loved Fred and Jack very much indeed. The subtle revelation of their feelings was a delight to read.

I hope the author decides to write another book, now that people have discovered "Wingmen".

I read somewhere he was in his late twenties when he first wrote it, so he should be around 60 today. Plenty of time to write many more books.
