I loved this book so much because the writing style is very close to canon. To further Holmes and Watson's romance more than the author did here seems inauthentic to me, despite the fact that it would be so satisfying to see them really get together,

you are right, I think this novel was good since it remained near to the canon without depriving the reader of a romance between Holmes and Watson.

I'll have to check this one out. I dislike most Holmes pastiches because so few writers have an ear for Watson's voice; they're generally either second-rate attempts or egregious Mary Sue stories.

Watson's marriage is canon. If Piercy is writing around canon, Watson's marriage has to be explained somehow.

Thanks for the heads-up!

it's not an extremely long book and it's quite cheap on Kindle ;-) I would be interest to know your opinion about it.

Yes, exactly. If one is taking the canonical view then you have to acknowledge Watson's marriage.

It sounds like an interesting book.

it's clear that I'm not an exerpt like all of you on the "canon" for Holmes and Watson ;-) But I had the impression this was quite strict to that canon
