Show me the books he loves and I shall know the man far better than through mortal friends - Silas Weir Mitchell
I still remember when I first saw a book by Kirby Crow, it was Scarlet and the White Wolf and that pretty cover was like a jewel among all those other photoshopped ones. It was so pretty that I bought book 1 and 2 at the same moment, even ( Read more... )

Okay, I looked it up before asking this, but you have me curious now. What's "kaltpunk"?

I think Anne Rice was possibly my first experience with gay fiction of any kind. I'll always be thankful for her books from that time period.

Also, I have to say, I LOVE Kirby Crow's “Scarlet and the White Wolf” series! I also bought it immediately because the covers were just so stunning. But I'm happy to say, the writing inside was just as incredible to me. My next Crow book will be "Angels of the Deep". I'm rather fond of "darker" stories.

From Kirby's own words: "if anyone asks what kaltpunk is, its apocalyptic scifi with horror elements. Kalt is German for cold." :-)

And I think you will love Angels of the Deep.

Hah. Great to know I read the same stuff as Kirby at roughly the same age. :)

And if I remember well, you liked Kirby Crow's Angels of the Deep.

I think it's the best book I read in 2009. Now I'd need to remember whether I read Erastes' Junction X in 2009 or 2008, that might make matters a bit more complicated. But yeah. Best book overall, and I like it better than the Scarlet books. :) But I'm a twisted mind.

I think you will like all the books above if you did like Poppy Z. Brite

A lovely selection - I have all 3 on my overall 'loved' list. And how interesting to hear your take on Cry to Heaven - I also felt a bit displaced from the characters at some stages, enjoying the book such a lot but frustrated that the romance wasn't as prominent or clear as I'd have liked.

It's pure coincidence, I swear, but you are lucky, Tony Duran is a genius of B&W and male bodies ;-)
