Jonthan Ross on Happy Feet

Every now and then IMDB is good for more than wondering where all the sane people went:

From his Film 2006 programme:

Happy Feet is one of the most entertaining and memorable animated features I've seen in a long while. And I speak as someone whose professional and personal commitments mean that I'm all too familiar with the current state of a genre which has become so heavily populated in recent years, essentially since all the American studios wised up to how much relatively easy money can be made in this market.

But here the quality in every department is appreciably higher than in most recent family movies. The storyline is a couple of steps ahead of the game and allows for great fun to be had with an interesting choice of music. The big name casting of the likes of Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Elijah Wood and Robin Williams has a real punch. While there are plenty of cultural references and jokes for adults, they're delivered with a speed and subtlety that means they won’t reduce the enjoyment of children. And the animation is superb.

Expertly paced and performed, Happy Feet works in pretty much every respect and would single-handedly restore my faith in American animated features - if it hadn't been made by an Australian.

*snicker*

review, happy feet
