Random Shit

Mar 23, 2010 23:15

I recently joined Twitter, and besides my lovely Pix, I am pretty much just following a random group of celebs. My favorite is CoCo and his bizarre obsession with that creepy Bieber kid, who is apparently from Calgary (which is just a little too close to home, eep). Equally awesome is the lovely, and Canadian (also from Calgary, which I'm mostly ( Read more... )

Some people think universal health care is going to cost them more and if it does, it's because their hard-earned money is going to some lazy loser who ought to be out working for their own health insurance. To these people, there's no such thing as (1) being cut off for preexisting conditions; (2) being unable to find a job with insurance (or any job) no matter how hard one looks; (3) making so little and having nobody to financially help out, that no matter how hard they're working, a person simply can't afford insurance premiums. And I'm sure there are some who simply don't care if somebody else is sick and dies - as long as it's not them or their loved ones, eh, it's one less person potentially on the public dole ( ... )

The right-wing extremists honestly think government wants to tell them what to do. As I posted in reply to one person: "If you are going to bring up how you feel Democrats are trying to control people's live from cradle to grave, can I bring up how neo-conservatives want to control what women do with their bodies and which people should be allowed the legal rights and protections of marriage?"

Ah, but the lives the Democrats want to control include those of straight white men! Big difference.

It really is something I just don't get. The racist idea is a bit terrifying to me honestly, but so is the idea that people just don't care.

The whole 'I don't wanna bankroll some deadbeat's insurance' argument is a bit puzzling. Is it really so much better to bankroll a money grubbing insurance company? And if you never get sick and use the insurance your paying for, someone else benefits anyway. It's the way Insurance works.

Twitter: taking random shit to extremes even the internet hadn't previously dreamed up....

America's aversion to universal health care is baffling to many Americans even. I keep not wanting to talk about it because tbh I don't know that much about the specific bill in question but still, I AM BAFFLED. It seems like there are lots of slippery slope scary reasons but not many good solid actual reasons.

Dude! I'm following the Dalai Lama. On Twitter. That shit is insane.

I don't really know anything about it either, hence the reason I usually keep mum. But I have lived my entire life under the evil and oppression of a universal health care system and don't find it all that evil or oppressing, so I struggle to understand that extreme of the debate.

Also the BS and shit slinging around my county and our system pisses me off. Leave us out of it nimrods.

Ha! That's cool! I'm particularly fond of the Leverage Twitter crew, they love their show and their fans.

Granted I was 19 when Shrub got elected so I didn't pay that much attention before but were there always this many hysterics involved in US political debate? I mean, I remember debate but this whole 'OMG THEY'RE GONNA EAT YOUR CHILDREN RUIN YOUR VALUES EVOL EVOL EVOL!' vibe is just weird. You probably don't know either, it's just, I struggle to understand how things got from 'we don't like this' to 'this is evil and oppressive' in a larger sense because I don't understand how the later has a place in political debate.

:( Leave Canada out of it! I feel like that should be a song.
