You don't talk to people on tumblr, that's not what it's for. It's not a community like LJ, it's more for people who pinch other people's art off deviant art and repost it. I like it for art, but it's not for talking.
Some people will cut and paste private messages into their tumblrs as posts, but I unfriend those very quickly.
