Reading challenges seem to circulate as memes in Blogger and Wordpress-based blogs. I don't know that I've ever come across one on LJ.

For me, this is a good one to start with.

Achebe was recently here in Washington to receive an award; the publicity made me curious about Things Fall Apart. Thanks for the other recommendations too. I feel I should know much more about African literature than I do. We read Cry, the Beloved Country my senior year of high school, but I've read nothing since.

I feel I should know much more about African literature than I do.

That's exactly why I'm doing this challenge. We'll see what happens. I thought about putting the Paton on my list, because I've never read it, but wanted a few from writers I'd never heard of before.
