Next steps in moving to DW

F'list purge; comm purge--I'm trying to cut down on LJ time in favor of Dreamwidth time. (See recent Dreamwidth post for more details.) If I cut you and you're *not* crossposting (and you care), let me know; I'll re-add people ( Read more... )

I'm just having a hard time posting on Dreamwidth, though a cross-posting of some sort would be easiest if I could post here and it shows up there.

Mine does that quite easily. Setting it up was not difficult, and so far it has worked just fine. The last couple of posts to my LJ have been crossposted from DW.

DW doesn't take incoming, I don't think, although you can set up Semagic to post to both sites simultaneously. DW's crossposting function goes the other way around, and what's more, if you edit the DW post it will automatically change the LJ post to match, rather than you having to do it manually.

DW will crosspost to here, and if it is not a locked post you can set FB to pick up your public LJ posts.

I've not made any moves to dreamwidth although I see that a number of people I care about, including you have so it's something I'll need to think about. I have a hard time pulling up roots, but if everyone is migrating, than I'll have to migrate also.

"Everyone's" not migrating, but those of us who are, aren't likely to come back. (Although unlike other migrations, this is likely to be slow.) Dreamwidth is doing *really good things* with both the code & its policies, and is working hard to create the kind of space I remember from LJ in 2005. Which is to say, one focused on "how can we make enough money to have this cool online site?" rather than "how can we make money by convincing people we have a cool online site?"

You could (or, rather, someone could) set up an RSS feed. (Creating feeds is a paid-accounts-only feature.) I think that if you validate your openID at DW, I could give it access & you could read locked posts in the feed, but I'm not sure exactly how that works.

I set up one for IJ before my paid account died here: elfatij, which will catch the stuff I crosspost to InsaneJournal, which is most of what I post at DW.

Oh! Hi there! *waves* I had wondered what had become of you! :)

Please leave me on your Flist here. I have a Dreamwidth acount but I never go over there. All my fan interests seem to be here on LJ.
