6 Year LJversary: Hello, Dreamwidth!

Apr 01, 2009 07:34

Six years (and two days) ago, I bought an LJ account, because of a post by wickedthought. (It's locked now, or I'd share it with you.) It wasn't a deep-and-meaningful post; it was sharp and funny. But I'd been looking for him since his website vanished, and I had a few friends who were active on LJ, and it seemed like the right time to join this game. Besides, ( Read more... )

splitting the f'list into "I'm watching these" and "I want these to have access to my locked posts,"

Ooh. Ooooooohhhhhh. How I've longed.

Of course, I hate moving. But ooh.

They are doing their utmost to make the moving process easy. (And also the part about staying in contact with people who don't move - like very simple ways to crosspost, ways for people to use their LJ account to comment on DW via OpenID, etc.) Still beta-testing, but the early reports are really promising. (Including people with many thousands of entries, comments, etc.)

I'm planning on moving, though I expect to be crossposting back here.

Will the crossposting software work for Macs, too, do you know? That has been a problem for me with IJ ---> LJ and I just quit trying.

I think more people do not use the Openid because they don't know what it is and just skip it. Elf was talking about that.

I believe the hope is that you'll be able to push a button on DW, and have it auto-crosspost to LJ (assuming that you're logged into LJ, or pass the password through, or whatever) - there's a WordPress plug-in that works like this, for example, and that's all browser driven, not OS dependent.

However, I cannot for the life of me find the discussion of it on the email list right now. I'll keep my eyes open for other comments about it.

I'd get a seed account, if I could. While I like WordPress, it's just not the same. And IJ is not bad either, but its concept is a little strange. So, I've stuck with LJ for 6 years, too.

Ah, this is what you were talking about. Can you get everyone to move there from here? *insert Witchy incantations*

OOooo --- seed accounts!

Gonna try. DW is planning on enough crosspost & OpenID support that it should be possible to move into it slowly, rather than an all-at-once hassle like switching to IJ was.
