I officially am planning on going to Escapade. I know this is a last-minute decision. I couldn't decide for sure until after PantheaCon last weekend.

I have not yet bought
1) Membership,
2) Room,
3) Transport.

Membership's easy. $125 thrown at a website. No decisions involved in that. The other two are troublesome.

Now I'm all curious. Do you mean actually know each other, or "have met, would recognize face, might put a name to it?"

Greyhound, despite usually being awful, is actually pretty efficient from SoCal to NorCal. The denizens of the bus and stations are, well, usual for Greyhound, but I took an overnight from LA to SJ and napped through it. It was quite fast, too. I don't know if it goes up to SF/Oakland on the same line or whether it goes near your destination, but it might be worth a try. The way I got down to LA that time was via CL rideshare.

And LA public transit was also actually decent last spring, when I went there to sort out my head and my novel. Better than south bay transit systems, about as good as east bay.

Greyhound doesn't list (price & sched) info for Oakland to Ventura on their website; since Ventura is a limited stop, not an actual station, that makes some sense, but it's why I haven't looked at them.

Someone said the Ventura Amtrak station was very close to the hotel; that's why I looked at them. I doubt Greyhound would be any quicker or notably cheaper; $50 each way is as reasonable as I expect on short notice.

LA's public transit is not as bad as some people claim (I think it's mostly that the locals are baffled at the very idea, and have no idea how to use it), but LAX to Ventura is a hellish public transit trip. And it pretty much kills the advantage of flying over train/bus travel.

Argh, I really really want to go to Escapade. Didn't think I could pull of the dates, but I think now that I could/can... *ponders* I hate that drive, but would consider it if I had company, or Amtrak with company and a book. You figure out your logistics yet?

I'm talking with slashpine about sharing a room, but she may be in a room that already has three other people ( ... )
