I love this. Well done. Luna's one of my favorite characters. This is all the beautiful and sad and dusty things in her head that creep around the corners of an otherwise narrow characterization in the text...

Have you by any chance read Witch Week, by Diana Wynne Jones?

There's character named Charles who has with a personal code eerily like this.
