I am not an Earth goddess.

I kill an herb garden every summer. It's a ritual. This year, I've hung the container over my balcony on the theory that the shade of the balcony roof is why I so consistently fail. Still, I don't feel *very* confident. Confident enough to buy the stuff and fantasize about picking my own cilantro and parsley from the porch though ( Read more... )

use a long stick to push it off the porch and ignore it. ~_^

or use two sticks like tongs.

different herbs need different kinds of light plus you need to remember to keep them well watered. i usually just make a habit of watering them a little every day.

re: black thumb. *nods* I do the same thing with the little potted pine trees for christmas - I buy them, confident that I will water them and care for them, and in the end, I end up with a dead christmas tree. If it wasn't for the cat, I'd start buying full size ones - at least then they'd have had a few years of life before I killed them.

That being said, most herbs like sun, so good luck! :)

re: dead bird - ummm...scary. I'd go w/ the poking off the porch, and then worry about it if it happens again.

It probably ran into your window.. they'll do that sometimes.
I'd use a long broom and just pitch it off.. there isn't any bird flu in the states, so its not too scary.

I remember a whole family of cardinals killed themselves on my window as a kid, it was very sad for everyone except the cats. They feasted instead.
