One of the things he’d never had time for in DC was swimming. Between Gibbs and assignments and writing and his sister, there just had never been time to go to the local YMCA, let alone head to any of the nearby beaches. It had been a strange day. Alice figured it was another weird island thing, so after her morning trip to the Compound she'd stayed in her hut most of the day. But even recluses such as herself needed to eat and drink, so it was a hungry and slightly irritable Alice that encountered Tim near the waterfall as she was on her way out.

"Hi," she greeted. "You're not gonna get much sun out here," she added, not really sure why she was staying to chat. Small talk hadn't been a big thing of hers...not until the island, anyway. It came in handy every now and then. Better than 'So, you're not dead' did.

"No, but I'm also not going to be teased for being as pale as a sheet," he returned, flushing a little at being quite so blunt about his words. "Considering how long I've been here, I probably shouldn't be as pale as I am, but I don't tend to get out much except on patrol."

He flushed a little.

"I didn't mean to say that."

Alice eyed him appraisingly. "Yeah, you're pale, but not when you blush like that," she said.

Huh. Alice frowned, shook her head. "...Seems a lot of people are saying things they don't mean to say lately." Even her.

"It happened last time with Tony." He really hoped he didn't say anything embarrassing like he had with Tony and Abby and any number of people in between. "He could help but say anything and everything on his mind. Especially when given a direct question."

He had a new appreciation for it, now.
