My daughter and I listened to Hoobastank's "The Reason" during a recent road trip and we both thought it was a perfect song for Kenshin and lo and behold, UltimateEnd7371 on youtube did make an amv with it.
Warnings: violence, spoilers for the OAV's "Trust & Betrayal" and "Reflections"

amv, samurai x, rurouni kenshin

You're welcome Nel. I'm very hooked on Rurouni Kenshin and Saiyuki nowadays. And "The Reason" is also one of my favorite songs!

The OVA "Trust and Betrayal" is the prequel story of how a man, Himura Kenshin, came to be known as the Hitokiri Battōsai (Manslayer) during the violent Tokugawa Shogunate era in the late 1800's Japan. Apparently it was created after the success of a long running TV anime series called "Rurouni Kenshin".

"Trust and Betrayal" shows how Kenshin was rescued from murderous bandits as a young orphan by a master swordsman, Hiko Seijuro, who teaches him the sword technique Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryū. Kenshin becomes a master at the technique but his idealism at the age of 14 leads him to throw in his lot with the Ishin Shishi forces...he wanted to use his sword to protect the innocent and downtrodden by killing those who oppressed and killed them.

Of course, this leads to deep seated guilt and...ANGST! LOL. Here's a quote from DVD Verdict's review from 2004:
Trust and Betrayal belongs in the top tier of anime. The film has many flaws, but few weaknesses. I'll break down some of the elements in a moment, but the whole creates a piercing ( ... )

I'm starting to realize that anime is a much more complex art form than I initially thought. They tell some heart-wrenching tales, unlike most of our animation, which is primarily designed for children.

That's why I like it. Yes, there's stuff for kids but a lot is for adults and it's very sophisticated. It really is an art, and they seem to really try to make it beautiful. Even when it's a very sad or grim story. Like Grave of the Fireflies, OMG that is the most heart-wrenching movie I've ever seen! But so beautiful.
On the adult theme, here's a funny thing a friend of mine said. She's an artist, and she commented when I showed her some manga, "When American cartoonists draw naked people it's porn, when manga artists draw naked people it's art." I thought it was hilarious! But true.
