Wooo guitar! I would love to learn, but like you said, they're expensive and it's very time consuming. At one point I knew how to play Amazing Grace, but that was a long time ago and I'm sure I don't know now... It is really hard on the fingers, nylon sounds like it would be a lot more comfortable.
And you'll be awesome at JASC. You ARE really smart, so don't let yourself be intimidated by some of the school names that people are coming from. Just because Harvard or whatever is an Ivy League and is famous and all doesn't mean that it's any better than Earlham. You wouldn't have been accepted if you hadn't been up to it. And didn't they even ask you to apply. I know you can do it and they do too.
Thanks for the pep talk <3 It's not exactly like that... Our school is one of the locations for the conference this year, so they really wanted students from the school to attend. They even extended the deadline by a few weeks to give profs time to ask students to apply. It does make me feel good that a prof recommended me, but I still can't help feeling like I might have slipped into the "accepted" list based on the fact that only two people from the school even applied. :P
But, regardless, we are so far from stupid it's not even funny, and I'm sure even if I'm surrounded by geniuses who used to be child prodigies and who solved an unsolvable mathematic proof at the tender age of 12, it will still be a really rewarding experience... you can only learn from those people <3 And they seem so nice online.
You must be getting so excited about Soudai! I can't believe I won't see you for a year! It makes me sad just thinking about it. You better Skype us.
I don't have much experience in music (or secondary school, for that matter), so I'll just comment to the boyfriend part. :)
I was shy, picky and am still bad at flirting...and I managed to not only find a great boyfriend, but I married him. :D Just go about being you, doing things you like, meeting people...and it will happen. Often, the harder you look, the less you find. AND, of course, the best man for you will be the one that loves you as you are, shyness, discerning tastes (sounds so much better than picky, lol) and flirting stumbles included.
Hell...a lot of guys prefer someone genuine and sincere, over a flirtatious, possibly fly-by-night sort. :D
Either way, good luck with that, and everything else you put your mind to. :) I'm sure everything you want will be yours soon enough. :D
