Yarning About Yarn

Feb 21, 2007 12:03

First, the good news. I went to visit the lovely fearga at the costume shop. While there, I got to chatting with some of the nifty ladies there, and one of them noticed that I was knitting. She mentioned that she had gotten a fabulous score of four balls of handspun, hand-dyed alpaca yarn at an auction for $15. While I was envying her purchase, she ( Read more... )

I'd love to be on your fiddly string crafts filter. I lurve fiddly string crafts.

As for the luscious alpaca - according to my knitting friends, it is perfectly ok to have a "pet" skein who's whole purpose is to make you happy just by looking or touching it.

Fiddly string crafts are awesome, aren't they?

Hee hee...I have cast on one sock, and the other skein is my "pet" skein until I cast on the other sock.

Oh no! Your poor scarf!

I really don't mind if you want to talk about your knitting adventures in this journal. Sometimes it's just easier to keep everything together. :)

Yes. The scarf is dead; long live the scarf! At least it can be recycled, poor thing.

It is easier to just keep everything together, so I shall transfer some things over soon (such as progressy bits and things). I will do my best to be entertaining when I talk about fiddly string crafts, so at least it won't be boring. ^_~

By the way, should Jane have a moment, Lizzie is getting a bit anxious. And bored. She's hating this whole being-bedridden thing.

I'm glad they're amusing, and you are right about the channel changer concept. I will continue to keep my beta novel separate (mainly because it's a concentrated project over there, and I don't update it often enough), but the fiddly string crafts can go over here.

Ben Franklin does, indeed, have gorgeous stuff. Especially the Mongolian cashmere. *sighs longingly*

You are wise, indeed. Thus far, I believe that all of my yarn has a project attached...but sometimes, the yarn decides that it wants to be something else.

If Ben Franklin ever had a yarn sale on feltables, I would be in so much trouble--it seems like all of my knitting fiends friends have pretty felted bags, and I found this fantastic colorwork pattern and the bag is forming in my head...it's dreadful. ^_^

Goodness. Reading all of Mark's friends' posts full of knitting craziness the temptation to learn grows stronger. But I don't have time!

Maybe next year. My intended room mate knows how to knit, I think. Anywho, I wish you well the glorious alpaca.

Oh dear, my second sentence there has gone horribly awry in the grammatical sense.

Knitting is a lovely, glorious thing that can be picked up and put down when homework is necessary. It also got me through finals several times--I'd study until my brain was full, knit a few rows and think about what I had studied (or rest my brain and let it organize what I'd just studied) and then throw myself into the books again.

Come to the warm fuzzy side!

Re: alpaca socks for Alex -- Make 'em TOE-UP! If you don't know if you have enough, start at the toe and work your way up. That way if you only have enough to make ankle socks, he still gets that lovely alpaca around his little toesies.

If you don't know how to do toe-up, we can settle ourselves in a corner at A&S and talk knitting 'til you know how.

Hummmmmmmmtoeupsocksmmmmmmmmm!

yes, yes, toe up, and 2 at a time! Best way to ensure you make them equal in length! It's not too hard, I can do it ^_~ (which is saying something!)
