Kumquats.

Apr 26, 2006 10:58

This morning, Cassandra informed me that, while my introduction to her story was good, it needs to have more kumquats in it. Apparently, that's what kept popping into her head during her nervous struggle with her self-determination on the evening of her fourteenth birthday. Kumquats. While "kumquat" is a lovely word that rolls off the tongue ( Read more... )

Congrats on the scribe post!! Y'all still count as An Tir, or are you considered The West? I was a nobody in An Tir once. ^_^

Oh and I WANT YOUR SHIRT!! Where was it found?? A certain future father-in-law NEEDS that shirt (and so do I)!
Little local printers are good, said future father-in-law owns one here in Nashville.

Hope your ear feels better, try an almost-hot damp washcloth compress on it. That always helps my earaches.

mmmm...kumquats. Good pickled!

Good to see you back here, been a weensy bit worried about you!
And A Year and A Day is being pushed back til JULY. *sigh*
But I will let you know when you can get your copy!

Would you like me to email you the newest finished novel? It is the "Japanese" kitsune story, Seven Times a Woman.

Yes, yes, and a thousand times yes! I remember reading the very beginning of that story ages upon ages ago, and I would love to read the whole thing!

I've always thought being a scribe of any sort (exceptong the stubborn scribes in the New Testament) is awesome. Congratulations!

Matel Casting. That also sounds quite nifty, do you get to design your pendant?

Eeek. Metal Casting*

The typo demons attacked me, I swear.

*bravely battles the typo demons* Begone, foul fiends! Your misspelling ways shall be tolerated no more!

Amusingly enough, there is actually a typo (or scribal error) demon named Titivillus. You can read more about him here: Titivillus! This entertains me to no end, as apparently Titivillus was known in medieval times and his reputation lasted up through the invention of the printing press! I seem to recall reading a story about how he gathers up all of the errors that scribes make and, if their prayers are more than their errors at the Day of Judgement, then they go to Heaven.

I have designed my pendant, and it was invested today. This pleases me. I will be actually casting it next week. Woo!

Huzzah for an update! That Cassandra's a pesky one, isn't she? She must have been feeling peckish when she started going on about kumquats.

Cassandra is, indeed, pesky, but such is her nature. She really is a dear, if rather insistent. How are things going with your own writing?

I am also taking a metal casting class at school now, and that's fun. I need to work on my wax today so that I can "invest" it and get it ready to be burned out. Then I can pour metal in it and actually have a pendant! Yay! Say what now? *blinks in confusion*

Kumquats...maybe those are her favorite treat, or a comfort food of some sort? That might explain the reason of thinking of those instead of magic???? Just a thought ^_^

Congrats on getting the job, please explain what exactly that'll entail, as I am as of yet quite unfamiliar with SCA stuff ^_^. And uhm...shame on Kinko's for messing up your prints.

I hope you feel better soon. I haven't gotten your pressy together yet, but I figure I've got some time still before we have a chance to meet, since you're so busy at the moment. I'm glad you had a nice birthday though ^_^

Investing is when you take the wax (which you form into the shape that you want your final metal thingy to be) and put it in this special plaster stuff. Then you put it in a kiln, and the kiln incinerates the wax so that you have this wax-shaped hole in the plaster. After that, you pour metal into the plaster where the wax-shaped hole is, and you let it cool. Then you wash off the plaster and polish your metal piece.

I think that she just happened to eat kumquats that day. They're rather exotic, and it was her birthday.

Being a scribe means that you come up with new charters (scrolls, awards) and do the art for them, do calligraphy, paint the charters, and teach other people to do the same. *nodnods*

I'm feeling a bit better, but life is definitely keeping me on the run. I wonder when it will slow down? We do need to meet soon, though, and not just because I'm curious! I miss you!

By the way, I love your icon. So cute.

Sounds complicated, but very fun to try. Good luck, and don't you dare not show off the finished product *looks fiercely at you*. ^_~

lol could very well be.

Sounds cool, if very busy work. Can't wait to see some examples though

I'm glad you're feeling better. As for when it'll slow down....when you let it! Which in your case is liable to be never, or at least not for a very long time lol. Trust me, setting a slower pace for yourself is a hard habit to learn. Just try and do so before life puts you flat on your *ss like it did me. That way the experience is a lot more pleasant ^_~.
And I miss you too, I miss hanging out with you. Seems like forever since we last just had a few hours to spend together. Or for that matter, with the hubbies, too. *sigh* Soon???? (as in, later this month?)

Thanks! I love it, too. My friend, _holly, made it for me. It's of her cat Montey, who's taken to lying on the prayer shawl I'd made for her

Hee hee...I have to get a stone to set in it, and then I have to solder a loop on the top so that it will actually be a pendant, and then you can see it. *grins*

I seem to fill up my life with stuff. For the most part, it's fun stuff that I love, so I can't complain too much. This month is going to be crazy-busy, as Egil's is coming and Alex is doing pre-registration and I am now being all official and scribal.

Awww...
