On reading

The problem with reading too much is you forget much of what you've read. For example, my mother was talking to me today and mentioned someone growing tangerines. I'd been thinking about playing soccer in the backyard at the time (because we were in the backyard and I was reminiscing, as they've been remodeling), which got me to thinking about ( Read more... )

So that's why Mom reminded me of it.

It still doesn't strike me as something a normal 11-year-old would read, no matter what it says on the back.

Another (mostly) sci-fi author who is very awesome is C. J. Cherryh. I've only read her Morgaine Saga (which is one of those blasted blends of fantasy and sci-fi, but which was great anyway), but I hear nothing but good things about her other works.
