Our Lady Peace -"Innocent"

huffy_chan has shared Raine Maida vids in her blogs a lot lately and via those, I ended up listening to all my old (post)grunge favourites (Audioslave, OLP, Stabbing Westward, Unwritten Law etc). Especially this song warms my disoriented and confused heart at the moment.

OLP, Audioslave, and Stabbing Westward, are such gems. Some Anberlin and AFI sneaked in here and there, too, for me. Those were the days, yeah. :D

It is often said that the Indians weren't strong or clever enough to take advantage of the land.

Ah, yes, another case of history being written by the winner. Which is pretty condescending point of view by them (the winner), IMO, considering the history of colonialism all over the world isn't all about fair and square fights 99% of the time. I read about that Spanish epidemic and its direct relation to the near annihilation of South American population when reading about Inca history. IIRC there were some underhanded tricks and manipulations used by the conquistadors at that time to seize control over Inca empire which didn't put them in a good light for me, but this definitely sounds like an interesting book to try to get a different angle of the whole thing from the other side. :) Not sure I'll be able to find it here, tho, but crossing fingers they'll print or import it somehow.

It's fun how, when I look back, I can clearly see these certain phases of music -how I listened only certain type of bands at a certain time of my life, and how I still connect the bands to the events of those times. It's like seeing my own history in songs :D My sister was big on AFI, I think she still might be. I've never heard of Anberlin, though, must youtube it right away^o ( ... )

Haha, true, when I feel like reminiscing, the easiest way to do it is to search and put on record collection from the particular timeline. Ohoo, cheers to your sister then and, oh, 'Ready Fuels' is one of my fave all time songs by Anberlin so, idk, try to YT that if you feel like it, maybe? :D

His-Story is a very neat way of putting it, I like that ^^ And yeah, even if they were third party with supposedly objective POV (foreign historians, non governmental researchers, etc), but like you said, the writer's gender, views on politics, interests, and prejudices play part in their writing. I guess that's one of the interesting points about history, exploring the differing accounts of it and drawing your own conclusion.

I love paperbacks, but I always have a folder full of e-books/audio-books in my phone on the go for efficiency reason, so I definitely don't have aversion to e-books. But, uh, is it really okay for me to ask for it? I don't feel so good about having it for free, tho. ^^;;

Oh, how about we do a little exchange then? Do you like Stephen Colbert and/or enjoy his show, The Colbert Report? If so, I have his audio book, I Am America (And So Can You),. Personally I enjoy his sarcastic humor so it's one of my fave audio books to listen to in long travel or just when I need a good satirical laugh or two. If you'd like it, I could try to upload it for you. It's around 195 MB in size. Let me know if you're interested. :)

Hopefully you'll like it as much as I did :D It's a really quick read, the events just steal you away! Like I said in a comment above, if you can't find it, or if you like reading on the screen, I have it in .PDF :)
