Your mom's attitude is ridiculous. If you look into jobs in China, tons of Americans who can't speak Chinese are moving over there, and making a lot of money, too. All the opportunity is in China now. I wish I could find an NPR report I heard on it a while back. It's partially the exchange rate and partially the exponential, ridiculous growth. Of course knowing ANY Chinese would help your job prospects. We interviewed someone here solely because they knew Chinese. I would pursue that avenue. You need to get away from them.
