When the Dog Bites

Mar 29, 2012 18:04

So the dog bite I got yesterday on my leg bled a lot in the night so I had to go out early to the walk in clinic to get new dressing.

Look away if you are squeamish - includes a picture of the bite )

Oh god. That's awful.

I'm glad you don't have to tutor at the house again.

t was a shar pei. Apparently they were bred to be fighting dogs and guard dogs, though they are friendly to people they know, apparently.

I've heard that about them. If they're not socialized well as puppies they're prone to bite. Thanks for the info. I hope you feel better soon!

The dog owner is entirely at fault(from Jerry in USA) anonymous March 30 2012, 03:00:54 UTC
The dog did its job as protector of the house. The human owner now knows that it's not safe for well meaning strangers. If the owner were bitten twice and bled and felt nausea, fear ,pain, sorrow from not completing work..etc the owner would be responsible and let the dog outside for the duration of lessons."Dog doesn't bite" is a common denial of dog owners ,sadly, meaning if it snaps at "US" it's playful and we ignore it.Bad dog.You did not sign up for getting injured.Your safety was in the owners incapable hands.Had you panicked and fought back you could have been MORE damaged and an eye, nose, lip torn etc.I have seen kids disfigured from dogs before, scarred for life.Would you inflict scars on anyone? I doubt it.Only in self defense. This writing will "fall on deaf ears",of course.Teeth thru clothing ripping flesh, bloody and tetanus....deaf ears.

Well the local authority/council knows about it now, so it's in their hands.

Yes, good point. I have reported to my agency and they in turn reported it to Brent council so the people in charge of foster care know the situation now.

Sure enough at Wikipedia and other doggie web-pages: "Even friendly and well-socialized specimens of this breed will retain the breed's staunch watch dog and possessive proclivities ( ... )
