Advice to the bullied in Japan

My friend asakiyume's daughter posted this video, which she then posted to her lj, and it prompted a bit of reflection on my part.

My point here is that it's easy to apply American cultural values to this setup and misunderstand what's going on.

Quite apart from everything else, this is such an important point to remember. People can see things that "read" as similar to something in their own society, and yet really those things can have a completely different import in their culture of origin. (I'm not being very clear here; basically all I'm saying is, "I strongly agree with this.")
