. . . taper? My first thoughts are that you either like large mammals with long noses and misspelled tapir, or that people who tape things excite you. But I have a feeling you mean something else that I'm not thinking of.

taper (n) the period in a swimming season where the intensity goes up, the yardage goes down, and you get more energy. More effective if not wasted on freaking out about midterms/papers... but still :)
